In 1974 three Dutch brothers began a journey which started Clogs Pizza Castle in Bendigo and was the first free home delivery service in Australia.
1986 saw the Pizza Castle expand and become Bendigo’s first a la carte Restaurant and now with a few aesthetic and concept changes, Clogs is still going strong 44 years later.
Clogs is still owned and operated by the van Haandel’s and is still using the same dough recipe and still has some of the original pizzas on the menu. Youngest son Michael van Haandel has now taken over the operations with help from Head Chef Brent Loam.
Most recently in 2017 the Clogs building, an iconic Vahland exterior underwent a bold transformation with the exterior being painted a bright energetic mint to symbolise what Clogs is all about and was shortly followed by a unique and contemporary retro chic interior redesign.
The terrazzo floors, marble bar, hardwood features and Italian leather banquettes make for a comfortable, fun and slightly Italian feel. Don’t be fooled by the name.
Clogs has a diverse yet fun wine list, delicious cocktails and a changing selection of craft beer and cider to compliment a modern Australian/ Italian influenced gastro delight.
